TLH Development Newsletter: 08/04/2018

This is the first edition of the newsletter I've decided to start. I'll be writing about development, real estate, and infrastructure in the urban core of Tallahassee.
If you have any interest in keeping up with the latest in our city's economic growth, you may find it beneficial to follow these weekly development updates. For those of you receiving this already: yeah I know I am kinda roping you into this, the first edition is going out to people I assume would be interested. If not, please direct complaints at me.
New Retail at West Tennessee & Appleyard

Developers are seeking review of a site plan for 2628 West Tennessee St, the Northeast corner parcel at the intersection of West Tennessee Street and Appleyard drive. The project is the construction of a new gas station and a stand alone drive-thru fast food restaurant.
Mays-Munroe Building

The historical Mays-Munroe building located at 320 W Tennessee St. is undergoing a massive renovation to restore the building for contemporary use. Four Points by Sheraton, the current owners, are spending upwards of a million dollars to turn the blighted building into a hotel amenity. Current plans suggest the building will be used for conference space and a bar/restaurant.
Varsity Plaza Tenants

The lineup of new tenants expected to stand alongside the new smaller format Target store at 1861 W Tennessee St has been announced. The plaza will feature: Boru Boru Sushi & Burritos, Brow Art Studio, Keke's Breakfast Cafe, Noire the Nail Bar, SuperCuts, and the second Tallahassee location of the growing fast-casual health food chain which got its start in town, Vale Food Company. It should be noted that the author recommends caution when visiting this new plaza; the parking lot will chew you up and spit you out.
Out With the Old

I'll close this first newsletter out the way I began it: with another gas station. The developers bringing us "The Nine" student apartments (a project not yet half complete) are set to begin a Phase II of the project. They're seeking to demolish the gas station that has sat vacant at the corner of 1040 W Pensacola St for several years. Plans call for another 6-story student apartment building with an additional 228 bedrooms.
