CSX Sells Off Assets along the Gulf Coast

The rail line cutting through Tallahassee will soon be under new ownership.

Recent filings

with the U.S. Surface Transportation Board show that CSX is selling its assets along the Gulf Coast (373 miles of rail lines and its associated real estate) to a subsidiary of

International Rail Partners LLC

, based in Boca Raton. IRP has announced plans to hire 37 positions in the Tallahassee area for the maintenance and operation of its new acquisition. What does this all mean for the possible restoration of Amtrak's Gulf Coast passenger rail?

Not sure. TLH Development will keep you posted.

COT Embarks on a Second Solar Farm

With the January completion of its

first 120 acre solar farm

, the City of Tallahassee plans to make good on its promise to double down. A subsidiary of Origis Energy USA, Inc. has submitted plans to begin constructing a new, larger solar farm and a low voltage substation. Proposed improvements will include new service roads which better link to internal airport access roads.

New Renderings of the Coming Speedway

I like to cover local firms and projects, but I am also a fan of new businesses coming to Tallahassee. It is a good indicator for economic activity within our city when an outside entity decides to be a part of our market.

Speedway LLC

is one such entrant, with new renderings to boot. Their proposed gas station will be located at 2412 W Tennessee St, currently the site of a vacant auto dealership.

Additional Student Housing for West Pen

Haven Campus Communities

, an Atlanta-based developer, plans to build an expansive 4-story, 209 unit student housing complex at West Pensacola between Atkinson Dr and Rivoli Rd. With the saturation of new units in College Town proper, one has to wonder if more developers will push their new construction West (as some have already begun to do).

FP Center has a new look, and new tenants

Beck Partners' recent acquisition of the Florida Press Center has resulted in a few things. The building is equipped with new windows, new paint, and new tenants. One such tenant is the fresh-faced nonprofit news group, the

Florida Phoenix

. I am remiss to not have covered them earlier; they are a top notch team of journalists doing quality work. TLH should be proud to host them.
